May 09: New Horticultural Light Pipe
Demonstration of Plasma International
GmbH Sulphur Plasma Light in combination with a Ply-Light
Light Pipe.
This horticultural pipe is 2 metres long
and projects a beautiful and powerful true full spectrum beam
from 90 degrees of the pipe.
The massive advantage is that the plants
can grow as close to the light as the wish, even touching
the pipe because there is absolutely no heat in the pipe at
all; only visible light!
Nov 08: Pre-Use Integrity
Testing of First Production Models
Plasma International Lighting Systems
(PILS) complete a full 100 hour pre-use integrity test before
delivery to the end user. These ones are destined for
UK and France. (Barry, Malcom and Jean-Marie)

OLYMPUS i-SPEED
3 High Speed Video is capable of capturing
images at speeds from 60 to 33,000 frames per second in ’normal’
mode (down to 1 second/frame in ’time lapse’ mode)
i-SPEED cameras are an effective method of locating problems
quickly and easily. The user can then evaluate new designs,
increase productivity and reduce maintenance costs.
Video images are digitally captured onto its
onboard memory, where they can be written to compact flash
card or downloaded via Ethernet connection to a laptop or
PC.
Custom designed software provides the operator
with the ability to analyse and enhance images. Velocity and
distance measurement can also be calculated.

Michael Ury (to the right) with Lee
Anderson and the five demonstration Sulphur lamps in
1994
"That was the longest five minutes of my life when
those things were turned on." -- Michael
Ury, 1997 interview
Sulphur Plasma lamps are twice as efficient
as other sources of high quality white light.
They produce almost no ultraviolet light
and very little infrared; this makes them
easier to use with plastic fixtures or fibres.
The full-spectrum light that is produced
is extremely good for visual acuity and feels
much like sunlight.
The light source is very bright (similar
to sunlight) so the light can be efficiently
distributed over large spaces.
The light output and colour does not degrade
over time, and it is fully dimmable down to
15%.
The lamp is very simple; a hollow quartz
sphere with sulphur and argon gas so it is
environmentally benign and light output quality
does not degrade in use.
Large and small
light pipes and light distribution tubes that
can be illuminated by Sulphur.
